PTA To Block Stolen Phones Strategy Announced

It is decided by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to start Mobile Devices Identification, Registration and Blocking System or DIRBS. The action has been taken to provide protection for the mobile phone users and to protect their data to be stolen. In keeping with the current Mobile Devices Identification, Registration and Blocking Regulations, 2017; The PTA is going to launch DIRBS. And recommend Standard Operating Procedures for its putting into practice on technical, operational and management type of problems. The system is designed to provide protection on demand of the shareholders. Besides of the customers of the mobile users together with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs).

Rules & Regulations by PTA

All mobile operators and form of approval owners will make sure that non-compliant mobile phones; shall not be carried, sold, marketed or connected with the mobile operators’ networks. Subscribers can verify the authenticity of their doubled IMEI devices which have blocked. The will show it by give in to valid documents in front of PTA and get services reestablished over pairing. On the other hand, if the device is established to be yielding accordingly, analysis of the submitted papers to PTA.

The phones which will be identified as stolen, blocked or have a couple of identifiers shall block by MNOs to use in Pakistan. Besides, the mobile phone users or owners may report about their lost or stolen; in like manner, the mobile devices will block by calling on the helpline of mobile phone companies which will associate because of that.

Persons trade in or carrying devices for the personal use will need to put on for certification to technical standards on behalf of IMEI devices supplied by PTA. Unregistered devices will deprive of mobile statement service by the MNOs.  The mobile devices will be counted in the Blacklist by mobile phone operators if found operational on the public switched network. Every blacklisted mobile phone will not activate apart from lost or stolen. And the suitable category devices that certified by the mobile operators. Besides DIRBS following the SOP authorised by the PTA.
